Christopher J. Nelson, CFA
Chris Nelson is the Founder and President of Nelson Capital Advisors. He has been involved in banking and investments for almost 30 years and draws upon that experience to provide clients with the perspective and insight that can only be learned “in the trenches.”
Previously, Chris served as the Director of Finance & Treasury and Chief Investment Officer for a New England-based community bank. In addition to managing the bank’s $1 billion investment portfolio, he was responsible for supervising the bank’s financial operations relating to liquidity and funds management, asset/liability and interest rate risk management, loan and deposit pricing, hedging and derivative activities, and international services.
Additionally, Chris serves as a faculty member for the Graduate School of Banking in Colorado and has worked as an adjunct instructor for the University of Maine Business School. He has also been a featured speaker at several banking conferences.
Chris holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Excelsior College, as well as a Master’s Degree in Finance from Cambridge College. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder and is a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Maine.
When Chris isn’t helping clients, he enjoys cooking, reading and spending time with his family.
Level Up Your Investment Skills
Chris enjoys using his 13 years of teaching and executive training experience to help community bankers learn about fixed income investments and portfolio management. He created Bond Investment Mentor, providing online and in-person training, as part of that effort to help make fixed income securities and portfolio management more understandable for those clients with responsibilities for their institution’s investment portfolio.
